Always Marsha . . . Marsha Marsha Marsha!

Marsha Marsha Marsha are well known.
The band, consisting of husband and wife team, Henry and
Marsha Early, not only put out fun enjoyable music of their own
but they also support other indie musicians, doing behind the
scenes work and never failing to voice words of encouragement
to other groups.

I met Marsha a while back in the chatroom during one of the
Premier Artist Shows. We hit if off instantly, probably because
she actually laughed at my jokes! Later, I listened to the band,
and enjoyed their music and their thoughtful lyrics. Giving them
a spotlight here on the main page is long overdue so here we go,
finally. THE interview....

Shauna: First off how was Marsha3X formed?

MARSHA: [doing an impression of Henry] Honey, come and try
to figure out some words for this, OK? [switching to her own voice]
Be right there sweetie! . . .  Well, that's the condensed version.
Actually it pretty much happened that way though. Henry has been
making music most of his life and was in a band when I met him. I
was on a date with someone else and they took me to see Henry's
band . . . and the rest is history. Henry had joined the new music
revolution of Mp3.com (yes, it WAS a good thing at one time) and
had done many collaborations. One night he asked if I could think
of some good rock lyrics to a song . . . and I thought of some. That
particular song will never be heard by anyone but Henry and I, but it
was the start.

Shauna: Why not call the band Henry Henry Henry?

I don't know, did someone say that on a hit TV show? Whenever
you meet a Henry, do you say "Henry, Henry, Henry?" NNNNooooo!!!
But say the name Marsha, and invariably someone, somewhere, will
stand up and say, "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!" (Either that or "John,
Marsha, John, Marsha.")

Shauna: Is Jan your favorite member of the Brady Bunch?

MARSHA: Actually, Alice was my favorite. I was always pulling for
her and Sam to get hitched. And to tell the truth, I wish Jan had
never uttered those words! [laughs]

Shauna: Do you and Henry collaborate on the writing of the
music?

MARSHA: I do the lyrics, Henry does the rest. He gives me a song,
and I work with what he's done. Sometimes we change a little here
and there, but not often! He's good!!

Shauna: How would you describe the music of Marsha3X?

Maybe a little eclectic? We both like so many different styles, and
we figure we don't have anybody to answer to, so we do what we
like. I like the more punkish rock that we do like "Goodgoodgoodbye"
and "I Want It All."

Shauna: What are the goals of the band?

MARSHA: Nothing is set in stone, but we mainly just want to put
out some good, fun tunes and hope that someone might enjoy
listening to them. I would love to have an artist take an interest in
one (or all!) of the tunes and want to record it . . . but that's the
fantasy side of it. The reality side is that we just do it 'cause it's
fun!!

Shauna: Who are some of your favorite musicians?

MARSHA: Henry is a big Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music/Brian Eno fan.
We both love David Bowie. I tend to listen to The Pretenders,
Blondie, and Aerosmith . . .As far as indie acts are concerned, I
admire the work of Bruce Satinover, Tim Daniel, RALLY, and of
course, you Shauna!

Shauna: OK Marsha. Choose Aerosmith or Donny Osmond!
(Ed Note: I asked this because Marsha recently confided she
got to meet Donny Osmond. I had known from previous
conversations that she listed Aerosmith as her favorite band.)

MARSHA: [laughing] I'm out of the closet now Shauna!! I probably
won't live this one down . . . egad! That really is a tough choice
for me! I have been an Osmond fan for almost 30 years. I grew up
with them, but then I was swayed to the dark side by Steven
Tyler . . . and I discovered a whole new world and survived it! Ha ha!
But when all is said and done, I couldn't give either one of them up.
I need Aerosmith to energize me and Donny to keep me
grounded. Sorry, can't choose....

Shauna: You're pretty active behind the scenes and are well known around here. Tell us how you got involved with the site?

MARSHA: Bruce and Henry have known each other for quite
awhile. When we decided to put Mx3 up on mp3.com, Bruce
was instrumental in getting us noticed. The more he talked
about AL, the more I became intrigued by what the mission of
this site was. I talked with Dave and expressed interest in
helping them and that was that! It's a great community and I
think their vision is a breath of fresh air in the corporation-ruled
world of mp3 land....

Shauna: Marsha I already know your favorite Beatle is
George. What about Henry? You know I have to ask that
question. It's tradition.

Marsha: Henry is a Ringo fan.

Shauna: What is your favorite Marsha3X song?

MARSHA: Hmmmm. "Keep Walkin'" has a special place in
my heart because the lyrics just kind of flowed out and I think
it's a very thought-provoking song. I love "I Want It All"
because it was the first song after Henry's illness that showed
the world he could still play a wicked guitar. It's the kind of
song that I want Mx3 to be remembered for...

Shauna: Do you ever plan to tour?

MARSHA: Nope. Doesn't fit in the grand scheme of things.

Shauna: Any words of wisdom from us?

MARSHA: Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush
be kept at least 6 feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne
particles resulting from the flush. A friend sent me that, so I
thought I would share it...

Shauna: Good call. Thanks!

MARSHA: Thank you Shauna for the opportunity. It was fun!
